A majority of lizards eat insects, while most snakes eat smaller vertebrates, including birds, rodents, fish, amphibians, and other reptiles. In the United States, there are over 230 amphibians, over 280 reptiles and approximately 800 species of fish. Melanism is known to occur in other species, but is common in cats.
